Your teacher and your classmates are excited about
the time machine. The class has just completed a unit on World War
II. Your teacher suggests that you use the time machine to travel
back to that era to find out what it was actually like to live
during this tumultuous time.
Consider
these options:
1.
What was "The day that will live in infamy" really like?
How did it feel to be a United Stated soldier stationed at Pearl
Harbor on December 7, 1941? Find out by taking your time machine
off the coast of Hawaii.

2.
Imagine being packed onto a boat with your company waiting to land
at Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. How would it feel to be on the
verge of attack? This adventure will take you off the coast awaiting
orders to go ashore.

3.
Many American soldiers were stationed in the European Theatre fighting
Nazi Germany during the war. These soldiers traversed the Alps mountains
and freed Jewish people from concenctration camps near the end of
the war in September of 1944. How did they do it? What were the
strategies? What would your role be in this task? Your mission will
land you on the front lines of combat.

4.
Why did the United States drop "Fat Man" and "Little
Boy", the atomic bombs, on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945?
What were the soldiers experiences waiting off the coast to attack
if the bombs did not work? Take the time machine to Japan to find
out.

Mission:
Your
group will pick a destination, research the history surrounding
that event and report back to your class in the format of a
diary. Remember, you are writing as though you are actively
participating in the war effort. Be creative and imaginative! |
